Job hunting season is now – Here’s 5 tips to get ready

New year, new job? With the holidays over, January and February are great months to get a positive mindset and start looking for a new job. As the new year will allow you to look at the job search with fresh eyes and new job openings tend to open more frequently in these months.

Our Recruiting Manager, James Owsiany stated “If you are considering changing jobs, January and February are some of the best months to start the search and interview process. Many hiring managers have received new budgets for the year and have returned from vacation and are ready to hit the ground running.”

January can tend to be slower as people are coming back slowly but by the end of the month and into February are prime times to start your job search. With that being said, you want to ensure you are ready. Here are 5 tips to help you get ready for your next job search:

Update Resume

You should always be updating your resume not only on your word document/PDF form but on your LinkedIn profile. Assess the skills you have gained over the last year and look out the responsibilities you have gained as well. These are great factors in how hiring managers can find you or have you stand out from the competition.

Grow/Connect your network

Your network is a great tool for job hunting. Connect with your network and see who they know that is hiring or if their company is hiring, the best way to get ahead of the competition is bring a referral.

Research

Start searching for jobs and do your research on companies that interest you. Job hunting isn’t as easy as you think it is. It should be treated like a full-time job. You don’t want to just randomly apply and hope something comes of it. Be strategic when you apply.

Interview Prep

When you start your job hunting, you will want to ensure you are ready for the interview. Companies are ready to hire and the process in this job market works quickly. Be ready for anything and have your references ready.
