The Suna Team joins with the San Diego Muscular Dystrophy Association for the Annual Muscle Walk!

By Dane Dyck, Account Executive

Suna Solutions prides itself by working with San Diego’s best companies.   Being part of the Suna team, I’m lucky enough to work with exciting companies who are on the forefront of their industry.  Working with the San Diego Muscular Dystrophy Association has been no exception.  Although the San Diego MDA is a nonprofit organization and the branch has only 8 people on staff, they are making a huge impact in rallying the communities involvement in helping support the Association.  The team is led by Angel Chanchea and with her and the rest of her teams countless hours of hard work they have truly been a blessing for those affected by MDA and related diseases.

So when we heard about the walk the Suna team was eager to be involved!

Here’s the Suna team getting our 15 seconds of fame on KUSI! Go Team Red!

The MDA Muscle Walk is a series of local walk events across the country held to raise awareness and raise funds for children and adults served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

I had heard about the MDA through their telethons local Muscle Walks, but I really didn’t know much about the disease and how much the MDA has actually helped in their efforts to fund research.   This is what I learned:

The MDA is a Not-for-Profit Organization who is dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research.  The MDA was created in 1950 by a group of adults with muscular dystrophy, parents of children with muscular dystrophy and a physician-scientist studying the disorder.  Currently the MDA has more than 200 offices across the country, sponsors some 200 hospital-affiliated clinics and supports more than 330 research projects around the world. The organization is now the world’s largest non-governmental sponsor of research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases. There is no known cure for muscular dystrophy, although significant headway is being made with research as MDA scientists are in the forefront of gene therapy research and have uncovered the genetic defects responsible for several forms of muscular dystrophy and related diseases.
